Earth Day Austin Celebration

Come out to Browning Hangar at Mueller this Saturday, April 20 from noon to 7 p.m. for the Austin Earth Day Festival. At this free event, you’ll enjoy live music, a full slate of interesting speakers (including Austin mayor Lee Leffingwell), environmentally-focused workshops, kids’ activities and more.

A few tips if you plan to attend:

• Don’t bother bringing a car all the way to the festival! Cap Metro will provide accelerated service between the festival and free parking locations. Plus, if you bike or take the bus, you’ll receive a free $10 certificate from Whole Earth Provision Co. (while supplies last). You’ll save the $7 parking fee too.
• Bring cash for the food vendors that will be on hand.
• Be sure to check out the 80+ eco-friendly exhibitors while you’re there.

Drink Specials at Restaurant Week Kick-Off

April 7 marks the first official day of Austin Restaurant Week – and to prepare for the big day, organizers are holding a kick-off party tonight (March 25) at The Records Room beginning at 8 p.m. At this free event, you can hear live music from Break of Reality. There will also be drink and appetizer specials (some cocktails $5, American beers $3, beef brisket sliders $5). Proceeds from this event will benefit Austin’s Susan G. Komen affiliate.

The Records Room is at 200 Lavaca St., inside the W Hotel.

Free Dental Care On Saturday

On Saturday, March 23, About Smiles Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Austin will host a “Dentistry from the Heart” event - a chance for local residents to receive free basic dental care. The event lasts from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last patient being taken at 3 p.m. Services are limited to adults 18 and up, and only the first 150 patients will be seen – so it’s a good idea to arrive as early as possible. Dental services provided are those that can be completed in one visit, like extractions, fillings, exams and cleanings.
