Get out of town and explore the town of Manor this Saturday, May 19 – they’re holding the inaugural Manor Market Days at Good Luck Grill from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Handcrafted products from local artisans will be featured, as well as concessions and of course, Good Luck Grill will be serving all day. Live music is on the schedule as well. Admission is free!

Free ASO Brass Concert

On Sunday, May 20 at 4 p.m., the Austin Symphony Brass Quintet will hold a free brass concert at Symphony Square Amphitheater. The show will feature hits from Broadway and popular films. For more information, call the ASO at 512-476-6064.

Free Drinks at Mercury Hall Music Event

On Wednesday, May 23, Mercury Hall will host a “Step into the Black” music series, sponsored by Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum. Enjoy a performance by The War on Drugs and a DJ set from Rapid Ric. Oh, and free Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum cocktails. The event lasts from 9 p.m. to midnight. RSVP here (must be 21, of course).

Free Event: Renegade Craft Fair

Tired of cookie-cutter decor and gifts? Stop by the Palmer Events Center this Saturday and Sunday (May 19-20) for the Renegade Craft Fair. This free-to-attend fair features hundreds of crafters and artists, but here’s the cool part – most of the artists’ goods have a DIY feel, meaning that they’re not crafted from existing patterns or based on existing products. In a nutshell – you’ll likely go home with something that’s really cool and one-of-a-kind. See the list of expected artists here.

If you’re a bit of a crafter yourself, you can settle down at The Wondercraft’s Airstream trailer and create some make-and-take projects, or take photos in a free photobooth from Magnolia Photobooth Co.

It’s worth noting that some of the artists take cash only, so be prepared. The Palmer Events Center has one ATM in their lobby. You can find parking info here; it’s $7 to park in the nearby garage.

Cheap and Free Kids’ Movies This Summer

Summer is almost here – and local theater chains are getting into the spirit by re-launching their cheap or free summer kids’ movie series. You can take your bored-at-home kids to the theater, relax (in the air conditioning) and see a movie for a fraction of normal price. Here’s who’s participating this year -

Cinemark – their Summer Movie Clubhouse program offers 10 shows for $5 (if purchased in advance) or $1 per show if purchased at the box office. Participating theaters in Austin, Bee Cave and Round Rock; days and times vary, but they’re always on weekdays and usually in the morning. Shows in Austin and Round Rock start June 5; Bee Cave starts June 13.

Regal – Summer Movie Express offers movie admission for just $1! Locations include Arbor 8 at Great Hills, Westgate 11 and Lakeline Mall 9. Movies start on June 5.

Alamo Drafthouse – free movies on the last Saturday of every month year-round; and during the summer, free movies at South Lamar and Village locations Monday through Thursday.

Splash Day at Area YMCAs

On Saturday, May 19, many Austin-area YMCAs will be open to the public for Splash Day, a free celebration focusing on swimming at the Y’s outdoor pools. There will also be plenty of family-friendly activities as well, including swim lesson evaluations, water safety info, and water games. If you’ve never tried the Y, now’s your chance to do it, commitment-free!

Participating locations include the Hays Communities Branch, the East Communities Branch, the Northwest Family Branch and the Southwest Family Branch. Hours of the event are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
